Hannah Falchuck, from Hockessin, Delaware, is a writer, a teacher, and the creator of an event where students show their appreciation for the hard-working staff of Dining Services. She majored in politics, and she minored in both poverty and human capability studies and in mass communications. Hannah has won recognition for her interest in the environment, with the Not Unmindful of a Sustainable Future Award; in politics, where she held a Schlegel Scholarship for International Studies; and in leadership, with her initiation into Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society.
Her talent for writing and language led her to serve as a tutor at the Writing Center and at the local high school; as a contributor to the Ring-tum Phi newspaper, the inGeneral magazine, and the Washington and Lee Political Review; and as a tutor of French for elementary school students.
Due to her interest in politics, Hannah had a stint as a legislative intern at the National Community Action Foundation as part of the Washington Term Program, and a membership in Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society.
Her passion for community service meant that she served as an outreach intern for the homeless in New York, during an internship with the Shepherd Higher Education Consortium; and as a volunteer with W&L’s Campus Kitchen, at an assisted-living facility in Natural Bridge.
Hannah leaves us for the Slovak Republic, where she will work as an English teaching assistant under a Fulbright grant. She hopes this new adventure will give her a greater cultural understanding.
