Alice hails from Austin, Texas, majored in economics, and studied in the Shepherd Poverty Program. In her time at W&L, Alice served on the Shepherd Poverty and Human Capabilities Advisory Board, as an intern for the Campus Kitchens Project, as a peer tutor, and as a member of the Reformed University Fellowship. Off campus, Alice has served as a public policy and international affairs fellow at Princeton University and was a federal advocate intern for Housing Works, a community-based organization fighting the twin crises of HIV/Aids and homelessness. In recognition of her contributions, Alice was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa, and was recognized with the Rupert Latture Sophomore Award. One faculty member, attempting to capture the essence of Alice’s value to the community, was quoted as saying that “Alice’s work with Campus Kitchens and the connections she has made with people at places such as the Magnolia House in Buena Vista are simply inspiring.” This summer, Alice will be working at the National Community Action Foundation doing poverty research and writing poverty policy. Eventually, Alice would like to pursue a masters and JD in public policy.
