The Charles S. and Lee P. Rowe Journalism endowment was established to support the department in assisting students with pre-professional educational experiences, like internships and attending professional conferences. It may also support the department in acquiring and maintaining multimedia technology, and/or fostering the global perspective of future journalists through visiting speakers, guest professors or faculty-led off-campus courses.
Charles Rowe was a 1947 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Washington and Lee University and attended the law school for two years. While on campus, he was president of the student body and managing editor of the student newspaper. He served for 48 years as editor and co-publisher of the Free-Lance Star in Fredericksburg, Va.
