Alex S. Jones-Susan E. Tifft Internship

Alex Jones is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and former director of the Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics, and Public Policy at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.  His late wife, Susan Tifft, was co-author with Alex of two critically acclaimed books about the newspaper families behind the New York Times and the Louisville Courier Journal.  After a career at Time magazine, she served as the Eugene C. Patterson Professor of the Practice of Journalism and Public Policy Studies at Duke University. Both received honorary degrees from Washington and Lee in 2009. 

Purpose:

To support one internship with a news organizations. Recently, students receiving these internships have worked at The Roanoke Times and U.S. News & World Report in Washington, D.C.

Eligibility:

Declared majors in Journalism or Business Journalism. Interns receiving this stipend typically work at least 300 hours in a newsroom.

Address applications to the department faculty. Include a cover letter and resume.
