Spring Term Abroad Music Courses
Explore the World Through Music
Spring Term Abroad music courses provide students with an extraordinary opportunity to connect academic study with cultural exploration. These courses highlight the ways music intersects with history, literature, and the arts while offering students a deeper understanding of global traditions and culture. Designed to inspire curiosity and broaden perspective, Spring Term Abroad music courses encourage students to experience music as both a field of study and a universal language that reflects and shapes the human experience.

"I absolutely loved being able to study abroad in both Vienna and Prague. It was amazing to be immersed in a culture with such a rich, historical musical background as you could easily tell just how important classical music still is in this part of Europe.I only wish we had more than three weeks to explore all that the city had to offer!"

Why Study Music Abroad in Spring Term?
- Small-Group Learning: Benefit from personalized instruction and close collaboration with peers and faculty.
- Real-World Experiences: Attend performances, visit archives and libraries, explore historical sites, and walk the same streets where composers once lived and performed.
- Cultural Perspective and Exploration: Experience different cultures and traditions by studying music in places with deep historical roots. Learn how music is interpreted, influenced, and given meaning across cultures, while also exploring its connections to history, language, literature, and society.
- Personal Growth and Self-Discovery: Students develop independence and confidence by stepping outside of their comfort zones. They grow academically, musically, and personally while expanding their worldview, opening themselves up to new opportunities and interests.
One of the key advantages of studying abroad during Spring Term is its flexibility. Students can enjoy a rewarding international experience in a shorter time frame, typically 3 to 4 weeks, making it more accessible for those who may not be able to participate in term or yearlong abroad opportunities. Spring Term also allows students to take courses outside of their primary field of study, supporting the goals of a broad liberal arts education.
"Traveling abroad is such a valuable and effective learning experience. Placing yourself in the same environment, even the exact building and space, where the composers developed is beyond inspiring."
Assistant Professor of Music, Dr. Akiko Konishi
