Professional Development
Our office supports professional development and forging connections among faculty interested in teaching CBL-related courses and conducting community-engaged research.
CBL Collaborative
The Collaborative trains faculty and instructors on the best and most innovative practices in Community-Based Learning, as well as provides them with key resources and connections across the university to foster professional and institutional growth. Participants design their own CBL courses and in the process examine their pedagogies, assumptions, and expectations relating to community engagement. Faculty involved in the Collaborative receive a stipend for their participation.
CBL Scholar in Residence
The Community-Based Learning Scholar in Residence position is a one-year opportunity that supports a tenure-track or non-tenure-track faculty member interested in or is currently conducting research that would enhance knowledge, understanding, and/or create an impact within the Shenandoah Valley Area. Professors from across the university are welcome to apply, including those from the sciences, humanities, and social sciences.
Community-Engaged Faculty Award
This award recognizes a faculty or instructor for exemplary engaged scholarship that fosters reciprocal community partnerships, including teaching community-based learning courses, conducting community-based research, or other means of enhancing the public good. The winner of this award is selected by a committee comprised of faculty and community partners.
CBL Conferences
There are several community engagement conferences that faculty, students, and community partners can attend.
