- Fall Work-Study hiring closes: October 17, 2025
- Winter/Spring Term Work-Study hiring: December 1, 2025 - February 6, 2026
- Last day students can work for Fall Term: December, 12, 2025

- Last day students can work for Winter/Spring Term: May 28, 2026
Students are allowed to work during Thanksgiving Break, Washington Break, and Spring Break.

You need to fill out this application and send it to studentemployment@wlu.edu.
No, however you can hire a student using your department funds if they already have a Work-Study position. Please contact Miranda Edwards at studentemployment@wlu.edu for questions about hiring into a department funded position.
You may have as many Work-Study students as you want. However, they must be eligible for the Work-Study program.
All open Work-Study positions are posted on the Financial Aid portal where students apply. If you want more advertisement for your position, you may send a flyer (PDF) to studentemployment@wlu.edu to be distributed to students. Only eligible Work-Study students will see advertisements and be able to apply.
Payroll Frequently Asked Questions
You will have to wait until payroll system opens back up to approve the time and the student will be paid on the next pay cycle. You also risk your eligibility to have Work-Study Students.
You need to approve your students’ time biweekly.
Pay rates for Work-Study positions vary based on the position’s grade, which is determined by the job description. Pay rates are as follows:

Students generally work between 5 to 7 hours per week. Domestic students cannot work more than 29 hours per week during the academic year, and international students cannot work more than 20 hours during the academic year. The following is the average number of hours students should work per week in order to earn the full amount of their award before the end of the academic year:

During the academic year, if the student is eligible to work, they may begin working on the first day of classes and they may work up until graduation day. The only break students cannot work during the academic year is Winter Break. Which means they can work Thanksgiving Holiday Break, Washington Break, and Spring Break.
