You may have as many student workers as you want as long as the budget allows for it. 

You will have to wait until payroll system opens back up to approve the time and the student will be paid on the next pay cycle. You also risk your eligibility to have student workers.

Pay rates for job positions vary based on the position grade, which is determined by the job description. Pay rates are as follows:

Students generally work between 5 to 7 hours per week. Domestic students cannot work more than 29 hours per week during the academic year, and international students cannot work more than 20 hours during the academic year. The following is the average number of hours students should work per week.

You can hire students to work during the summer using your department funds. Please contact Miranda Edwards at studentemployment@wlu.edu for questions about hiring summer students.

During the academic year, if the student is eligible to work, they may begin working on the first day of the declared academic year until the last day of the academic year. However, students should not work while the University is closed.

No. Positions paid through departmental funds do not count towards a student’s Work-Study award. However, their allotted hours are a combination of any positions they hold. This should be kept in mind, as they have a limited amount of work hours.
