VIP Dinners
The W&L Hillel Very Interesting Professors (VIP) dinner series happens several times each year at a local restaurant. Students get to know their professors on a social basis while learning about his/her research and interests over dinner. There is no cost to students, but spaces are limited and first come-first serve.
Social Activities
Washington and Lee Hillel sponsors many fun events for all students. Some of the activities held in the past include our annual Great Latke-Hamentashen Debate, holiday parties, challah-baking, movie nights, a Bar-Mitzvah celebration, bagel brunches, concerts, bonfires and study breaks. Please note weekly e-mail for upcoming programs.
Birthright Israel
If you are interested in going on a Birthright trip, or other Israel program, please contact Hillel at hillel@wlu.edu or 540-458-8443.
Social Action / Tikkun Olam
- Tzedek – Justice
- Tikkun Olam – Completing the world
- Chesed – Charity
These ideas are the cornerstones of the Jewish tradition and values we cherish. (But that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun doing them!)
W&L Hillel enables students to pursue tzedek, tikkun olam, and chesed in many ways. Be it raising funds for local, national and international environmental organizations or giving of our time and talents here in Rockbridge County or on a service-learning trip, Hillel students are making a difference.
The Fund for Jewish Social Responsibility
W&L Hillel is honored to carry out the vision of local Jewish philanthropists by helping to meet the most basic material needs of children living in poverty in Lexington and Rockbridge County through the endowed Fund for Jewish Social Responsibility. Every year Hillel students provide clothing, shoes, books (and a toy or two!) as well as an introduction to the Jewish value of tikkun olam the neediest children in our community.
