Academic Support
Academic resources for students extend well beyond the classroom. Faculty advising, peer tutoring, career development, writing assistance and library and information technology services all help to ensure that students receive the support they need to succeed in their four years at W&L and beyond.
Harte Center for Teaching and Learning
The Houston H. Harte Center for Teaching and Learning promotes inclusive and engaging practices for teachers and students at all levels.
Academic Advising
The academic advising system is fundamental to undergraduate education at Washington and Lee University – it is, in fact, some of the most important work we do. Academic advising provides resources for students as they seek not only to meet graduation requirements, but also to become liberally educated human beings, well-developed in both intellect and character; encourage students to take responsibility for their own educations and academic actions; fosters conversation among students and faculty beyond the classroom; and helps students to explore and serve a larger world through study abroad, community service, postgraduate education, and the commencement of productive careers.
Peer Tutoring
The Peer Tutoring Program provides assistance for students with the academic content of their courses. Upper-division students are available to tutor students in most lower-level courses at the University, free of charge.
Help Centers
Along with Peer Tutoring, the Harte Center offers Academic Success Coaching, Academic Technologies, the Writing Center, and additional student and faculty resources.
