Fraternity and Sorority Life
Hello from Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) at W&L! The popularity of FSL at Washington and Lee is a testament to both the camaraderie that the students find within their organizations and the breadth of opportunities that they provide. Fraternities and sororities exist for the personal and professional development of their members and their community. Our FSL community is founded on principles of scholarship, leadership, friendship, and service and our members strive to exhibit these values in their daily lives.
Fraternity and Sorority Life at Washington and Lee aspires to be a values-based community where organizations cultivate academic excellence, civic engagement, holistic development, and meaningful lifelong membership. Through intentional leadership, our community empowers students to make a lasting impact on campus and beyond.

Our Mission
Fraternity and Sorority Life at Washington and Lee fosters a safe and purpose-driven experience for organizations by advising, educating, and supporting students in collaboration with campus partners, alumni, and inter/national organizations.
Governing Councils
The FSL community consists of four governing councils: the Cultural Greek Council (CGC), the Interfraternity Council (IFC), the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and the Panhellenic Council (Panhellenic).
Fraternity & Sorority Housing
Starting sophomore year, members of Panhellenic sororities and IFC fraternities have the opportunity to live in their chapter’s house. Living in an on-campus fraternity or sorority house counts towards W&L’s residency requirements and these students abide by the same Housing and Residential Life polices and expectations. NPHC organizations will have the right of first refusal to Chavis House (10 Lee Avenue), and members of CGC organizations can opt to live together in upper-division housing through the standard housing selection process.
Philanthropy & Service
All of our organizations engage in philanthropic endeavors and community service throughout the year. These range from fundraising, issue awareness, and on-site volunteer activities. Each organization on campus has a specific philanthropy or local cause that they raise money for or volunteer their time to support.
FSL Organizations at W&L
Washington and Lee has two CGC organizations, one fraternity and one sorority:
- Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc.
- La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc.
Washington and Lee has nine IFC fraternities:
- Chi Psi
- Kappa Alpha Order
- Kappa Sigma
- Lambda Chi Alpha
- Phi Kappa Psi
- Pi Kappa Alpha
- Pi Kappa Phi
- Sigma Chi
- Sigma Nu
Washington and Lee has four NPHC organizations with charters:
- Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
- Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
- Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
- Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
Washington and Lee has six Panhellenic sororities:
- Alpha Delta Pi
- Chi Omega
- Delta Society
- Kappa Alpha Theta
- Kappa Kappa Gamma
- Pi Beta Phi
