
Parking and Vehicle Registration
Washington and Lee University provides extensive parking options to best accommodate the needs of the University community. Parking on campus is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and available parking is not guaranteed. All parking must be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations outlined in this policy.

Vehicle Registration
All members of the university community must:
- Register their motor vehicles with the University Parking Services.
- Display a valid/current parking permit on their vehicle at all times when parked on campus.
Parking Restrictions
Fire lanes and visitor parking areas are strictly off-limits for registered vehicles.
- Firelanes are reserved for emergency vehicles at all times.
- A vehicle can never block, idle, park, or remain unattended in a firelane.
- Enforced 24/7.
- A citation will be issued and towing may be initiated without any communication.
- Students and Faculty/Staff are never considered visitors to campus.
Fifteen-minute parking spaces:
- May NOT be used for overnight parking.
- Must not exceed the 15-minute limit.
Permit Issuance
Registered vehicles will be issued permits based on the following criteria:
- Student Permits - Assigned by academic year and residential status.
- Faculty/Staff Permits - Based on employment classification and departmental allocation.
- Temporary Permits - Available for short-term needs or visitors with prior approval.
- Special Permits - For individuals with accessibility needs or special circumstances.

Vehicle Permit Policies
All students, faculty, and staff must register motor vehicles-including motorcycles and mopeds-and display a valid/current parking permit to park on campus.
Registration Process
- Vehicle registration must be completed using the Washington and Lee sign-on in the OKTA Apps.
- Students may register one vehicle at a time.
- Faculty and staff may register up to two vehicles and must display their hangtag permit on any registered vehicle they park on campus.
- If a vehicle is replaced or its registration information changes, users must update their account in the online system.
Permit Fees
- Faculty/Staff (F/S) Permit - No Fee
- Resident Assistant (RA) Permit - No Fee
- All Other Permits - $65 per academic year
Fees must be paid before receiving the permit.
Lost or Temporary Permits
- Lost or stolen permits must be reported immediately to Washington and Lee University Public Safety.
- If a registered vehicle is temporarily unavailable (e.g., for maintenance), a temporary parking permit can be obtained from the Department of Public Safety.
Permit Display Requirements
- F/S Permits: Hangtag must be displayed on the rearview mirror, facing outward and clearly visible.
- Student Permits: Sticker-type permits must be applied to the lower left-hand corner of the rear window, unobstructed and unaltered.
