Theater
Theater at Washington and Lee provides a dynamic introduction to performance, production, history, and literature. The department produces a number of theatrical events each year, including plays and musicals. Participation in any department production is open to all students at Washington and Lee. Students who wish to deepen their understanding or hone their craft can choose to major or minor in Theater. Through the study of the practice and history of theater, students develop aesthetic appreciation for art and culture, learn flexible problem solving methods, acquire diverse communication skills and employ creative collaborative processes.
Dance
The award-winning W&L Repertory Dance Company has been hailed as a company of “outstanding artistic integrity” by the American College Dance Festival Association. Through the dynamic W&L program, students have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the productions. The dance minor offers additional opportunities through classes in Dance History, Composition, Dance Analysis and Design, among others. Through the dance minor, W&L students become well versed in critical analysis and learn to view the world from multiple perspectives.
Film and Visual Culture
A minor in film and visual culture requires completion of 18 credits from six courses. In meeting the requirements of this interdisciplinary minor, a student must use at least nine (9) credits not also used to meet the requirements of any other major(s) or minor.
