W&L Dancers Create ...

Under the artistic direction of Jenefer Davies, W&L Dancers Create is a concert of works created, designed and performed by W&L students—a performance that reflects, in theme and style, current undergraduate work in dance. This dance concert showcases the intellectual and creative curiosity within the dance program. With permission, students are invited to create choreography for this concert.

Auditions: September 3, 2025, 3:00-4:30 pm

Location: W&L Dance Studio, 109 S Jefferson Street (entrance is from the alley)

Audition Information: The purpose of the dance audition is to evaluate the existing technique, musicality, and performative qualities of each individual student with the goal being to cast every student in a role that both celebrates and challenges them. The audition isn’t a high stress situation. The artistic director will teach a modern dance class and evaluate everyone over the course of the hour and a half. The only particular skills necessary are a great collaborative spirit and a desire to create and perform. The company is situated within the contemporary/modern dance genre with opportunities in ballet, jazz, aerial, hiphop, folk dance forms, and others. The company is a wonderful mix of students who’ve studied dance since they were very young, students who have taken classes for a few years, and students new to dance. Everyone is welcome. W&L dance is a family and we all support one another.

Please wear comfortable clothing in which you can move freely. Depending on your past experience this may be leotard and tights, tank top and leggings, t-shirt and sweatpants, etc. Please do not wear shorts. The audition is conducted bare footed. Please pull long hair back. Bring a receptacle for water.

Any questions, please email Jenefer Davies at daviesj@wlu.edu.

These Shining Lives

Directed by: Jemma Alix Levy
Written by: Melanie Marnich

During the 1910s and 1920s, thousands of women were hired to paint radium on watch and clock faces to make them glow in the dark. In the 1930s, these women changed the world. Faced with corporate greed and medical misdirection, these women fought back, and their courage helped transform labor laws in the US and Europe, led to major advances in science and medicine, and changed industrial safety standards. Yet up until then, these women were just regular people with families and friendships and challenges and lives. These Shining Lives, by Melanie Marnich, is based on the true story of a few of these women and illuminates the humanity behind their achievements.

The Play That Goes Wrong

Directed by: Suzanne Delle
Written by: Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields

A murder mystery play within a play, The Play That Goes Wrong is everything its title implies—a play in which everything that could possibly go wrong, does! This long-running play by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields centers on the drama-prone Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society as they attempt to put on the 1920s play, The Murder at Harversham Manor, while mishaps and disasters plague their production from the very start. The Play That Goes Wrong offers a unique set-design, wacky characters, and non-stop laughs.
