About the Department

Assistant Professor of Business Administration Emily Landry teaches a class in the Connolly Center for Entrepreneurship.

Business Administration is one of the most popular majors at W&L. We offer small classes taught by faculty who are passionate about undergraduate teaching and mentoring. Courses are discussion-based, applied, and often include group work, presentations, hands-on projects, and interactions with external organizations. Faculty maintain an open-door culture and work closely with students on academic planning and exploration. Thoughtful teaching and student engagement are central to our mission.

The major provides a foundation in accounting, economics, analytics, finance, organizational behavior, marketing, communication, and strategic decision making. Students deepen their expertise by choosing electives that build one or more areas of strength, such as data analytics and decision-making, marketing and communication, organizational leadership and human resources, or business ethics and social responsibility. Many students enhance this work through internships, research, community engagement, or study abroad.

Graduates pursue a wide range of careers that draw on their analytics, communication, and leadership skills, including consulting, marketing, brand management, investment banking, strategy, technology, non-profit and public service, and entrepreneurship. They benefit from an active and generous network of W&L alumni who support internships, mentoring, and first-job opportunities. Many students pursue graduate study after several years of experience, including MBA, law, and specialized master’s program.
