Explore one of the world’s most influential civilizations in the best way possible: private guided tours with friends on land and water. Our Egypt program offers a close look at Egypt’s ancient achievements—from the iconic monuments of the Old Kingdom to the artistic and architectural innovations that shaped the Nile Valley for millennia.
We will begin by encountering the Great Pyramid of Giza and the Sphinx, followed by a visit to the new Grand Egyptian Museum, home to an extraordinary collection that brings Egypt’s long history into clear focus. In Luxor, we’ll spend time in the Valley of the Kings and at the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, two sites that reveal the complexity, craftsmanship, and ambition of the ancient world. During our tour of these wonders, our accommodations will be five-star hotels that will provide comfort and refinement for our intrepid travelers.
Midway through the journey we’ll shift our perspective to the water, traveling for four days on a private dahabiya, a traditional sailing vessel that offers an intimate view of life along the Nile. Traveling by dahabiya provides one of the most unique methods of experiencing the historical and traditional vibrancy of one of the most important waterways in world history.
Designed for the intellectually curious traveler, this Washington and Lee Lifelong Learning program offers a rich perspective on Egypt’s monumental past and its enduring cultural legacy.
We anticipate both departures filling quickly, so don’t hesitate to register for this bucket-list trip.
