The Martin and Brooke Stein Professor of History Richard Bidlack and the William P. Ames, Jr., Professor of Sociology Krzysztof Jasiewicz are retiring at the end of the current academic year.  Both joined the faculty in 1987 and have served as core members of the East European and Russian Studies Program.  Alumni are invited to drop by a reception in the atrium of the Center for Global Learning on Friday, May 3, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. to reminisce with them and wish them well in retirement.  Refreshments will be served.

Please stop by the Watson Galleries to see Senshin’an, W&L's unique and very authentic Japanese Tearoom.  Enjoy traditional sweets and a bowl of matcha while learning from Professor Janet Ikeda about the tearoom as both an important work of art and as a cultural lab for W&L and the broader community.  Hal Higginbotham ’68 will be on hand to show some tea-related objects from his collection of functional ceramics and to describe how the tearoom has influenced his collecting philosophy and direction.  Nalleli, Guillen, Associate Director of Curatorial Affairs, will also be present to explain the role of the University Museums in advancing and expanding the University’s educational mission.
