Our Setting
Our campus is in Lexington, Virginia, about forty-five minutes to Roanoke, two hours from the state capital of Richmond, and three hours from Washington, D.C.
Our Setting
Lexington has many typical attributes of a small town, like fun shops and unique restaurants, farmers markets, festivals and parades (which you may even be in), but don’t let it fool you! Lexington is also consistently named a best small town, hosts two colleges, and is nestled among the mountains in an inspiring location. Students often take advantage of the area lead including backpacking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, rock climbing, and mountain biking excursions.
One of the communities best qualities is how people know and care for each other here. It’s nearly impossible to walk downtown without bumping into friends or saying “hi” to professors. Lexington become such a part of students’ lives that graduates often return to visit long after their college days are behind them.
The Mattingly House, located on the edge of campus and tucked into the town, is where we explore hard questions about the causes and consequences of poverty and inequality as well as our role in the community. From there you can find Bonner Scholars all across campus and throughout the local community partnering with service agencies, non-profits, and mission-focused organizations.
