Shakespeare's England Selections from the Folger Collection

April 25 - May 27, 2016
Lecture & reception: TBA

To commemorate the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death, Washington and Lee University's Staniar Gallery, in conjunction with the Departments of English, History, and Art and Art History, will present an exhibition of original prints and reproductions from the collection of the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC. These works, produced in Great Britain during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I and the career of William Shakespeare, will help describe and define various aspects of life in England during the period generally considered its "Golden Age." Through portraits and theatrical scenes, this exhibition will offer a glimpse into the world of Shakespeare's England.
