AI Resources

Harte Center for Teaching and Learning

In today’s rapidly evolving educational landscape, generative artificial intelligence (genAI) is reshaping how we teach, learn, and engage with information.

Our mission is to provide the Washington and Lee University (W&L) community—students, faculty, and staff—with comprehensive resources to understand and evaluate the implications of generative AI in academic settings.

We do not advocate for or against the use of generative AI; instead, we aim to equip you with the knowledge necessary to make informed decisions regarding its integration into your educational practices.

Our Mission

We are dedicated to offering balanced and objective information about generative AI, focusing on its potential applications, benefits, and challenges within the realm of teaching and learning.

Our goal is to support the W&L community in critically assessing how generative AI may influence academic endeavors, while acknowledging that our expertise is centered on educational contexts and does not extend to AI applications beyond the classroom.

Generative AI Syllabus Statement Tool

The Provost’s Office strongly recommends that every course syllabus include an explicit statement regarding the use of generative AI tools in that course.

PLAI Lab

The PLAI (Prompting, Learning, and Artificial Intelligence) Lab is a dedicated space in the Harte Center (Leyburn 130) where members of the W&L community can explore and experiment with generative AI tools in a supportive environment.
