Endowment Thresholds
Endowment Thresholds
Washington and Lee University aims to create permanent support in the form of endowment to support W&L’s highest fundraising priorities today.
Support for Students
Individual named merit-based or need-based scholarships are an important part of ensuring access to a W&L education for today’s talented students.
Support for Faculty
Endowments support named professorships; visiting artists, scholars and executives; and new faculty initiatives.
Support for Academic Programs
Endowment funds help departments and programs support the many creative ideas and worthwhile activities of their faculty and students.
Why Minimums?
Endowments work best when the size of the endowment is large enough that its earnings can truly underwrite its intended purpose. All of W&L’s endowment minimums are approved by the Board of Trustees. The minimums are calculated based on how much it costs annually to fund the activity the endowment is supporting.
