Dear Members of the W&L Community,
When Kim and I finished our previous assignment at W&L, we vowed to return to campus frequently, but we never imagined it might be in this new role. And yet here we are, almost a decade later, gratified and humbled to serve Washington and Lee during this time of transition and continued achievement.
As I look toward the fall semester, I am excited to greet new students and colleagues and reconnect with old friends while supporting the good work already underway. The university is in an enviably strong position — a testament to so many of you, including former President Dudley. W&L will soon be settling into the rhythm of another academic year as we welcome another exceptional class of first-year undergraduate and law students. The campus continues to evolve. Signs of completed capital projects and the beginning of new ones are readily apparent. And this year, we will ensure the successful completion of the Leading Lives of Consequence capital campaign. There’s so much more.
It’s an honor and a privilege to be with you at this time and to help however I can.
With Lee House under restoration, Kim and I will be residing at Morris House beginning in mid-July. After a brief stint on campus this week, and while Morris House is being prepared for our arrival, I will head off for a couple of alumni visits before returning to campus and beginning in earnest our work for the coming year.
I look forward to seeing all of you soon. Our first opportunity will be at a special mid-week ice cream social in the dining room of Café 77 this afternoon at 2 p.m. All are welcome, and I hope to see you there.
Ken
