Strengthening the Curriculum
At Washington and Lee, students benefit from a mix of traditional liberal arts, innovative interdisciplinary programs, and highly ranked professional programs. But the curriculum doesn't end there! W&L also educates students outside the four walls of the classroom, and pushes them to apply their knowledge to the world around them.
Donors can help sustain and enhance W&L'sl curriculum by investing in the following iinitiatives:
First-Year Seminars offer incoming students the opportunity to take a seminar-style class with other first-year students. Classes are small and highly interactive, and first-year students benefit from engaged discussions with their professor and classmates.
Washington and Lee is becoming a leader in the national debate about how best to prepare law students for the practice of law by establishing a third-year curricular initiative called "Bridge to the Profession."
Interdisciplinary programs represent some of the most creative and cutting-edge areas of W&L's curriculum. W&L is growing its interdisciplinary programs in Environmental Studies, African American Studies, Women's Studies, International Studies and East Asian Studies.
Washington and Lee offers students many learning opportunities in non-traditional settings which enrich their education.
Departmental and Program Support Funds help to underwrite the many educational events and activities that are so important in enriching the academic life of the University.
Academic skills programs offer students focused settings in which to practice and refine skills that are fundamental to a liberal arts education for the 21st century.
