Clyde Wang
Clyde Yicheng Wang is an assistant professor at the Department of Politics. His research centers around ideology and media politics in authoritarian countries, with a regional focus on China. Clyde’s current book project studies the collaboration between China’s media market, public discourse, and authoritarian propaganda. In addition to this main strand of research, Clyde also studies Chinese foreign policy, nationalism, and intellectual history.
Prior to joining W&L in 2023, Clyde obtained a PhD in political science at Boston University. His academic articles have appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as Political Communication, The Journal of Contemporary China, and Nations and Nationalism, among others. His research has been mentioned in media outlets including the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, and the New Yorker. Apart from his scholarly work, he also writes as a columnist for several Chinese language media, including The Paper (Pengpai Xinwen) and The Initium (Duan Chuanmei).
