Adam Scales

Biography

Dr. Adam Scales is the Assistant Director of Academic Success in the Harte Center for Teaching and Learning. In this role, he oversees programs and initiatives that foster student learning and success, including academic coaching, peer tutoring, academic support programs, and learning resource projects.

Before arriving at Washington and Lee University, Adam served as a Lead Academic Coach and Faculty Associate in the Mary Lou Fulton College for Teaching and Learning Innovation at Arizona State University and a Learning Development Advisor and Teaching Fellow at the University of Surrey, UK. In addition to teaching academic success courses, Adam has experience in writing centers, summer bridge programs, student success teams, and centers for teaching and learning.

A key interest in Adam’s career is supporting students’ transition to and success within postsecondary education. Adam is a Fellow of the United Kingdom’s Higher Education Academy in Learning and Teaching (FHEA) and an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) with the International Coaching Federation.
