How do you get curious about students in counseling?
When I first meet a student, I love to ask, “If I were to visit your hometown, where would you HAVE to take me?” Answers range from natural parks, to restaurants, to homes of family/friends, to places of worship, to malls, to museums … All of these places provide an entry point into understanding students’ context, culture, style, and values.
