Simmi Mookerjee is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Accounting at Washington and Lee University’s Williams School of Commerce, Economics, and Politics. She holds a Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business, where she also earned the Foster PhD Distinguished Teaching Award. She received both her B.S. and M.S. in Accounting from the University of Kansas. Before entering academia, Dr. Mookerjee worked in a variety of professional roles, including as a Senior Auditor at Ernst & Young, a Senior Accountant at American Century Investments, and a Divisional Controller at Lockton Companies.
Dr. Mookerjee’s research examines how financial and non-financial disclosures influence investor and regulatory behavior, with a particular focus on stakeholder responses to firm-level misconduct and emerging sources of corporate transparency such as social media. Her current projects explore topics including diversity signaling in corporate communications, goodwill impairment processes, and litigation risk. Dr. Mookerjee teaches courses in financial accounting and data analytics, and she is especially passionate about helping students engage critically with the evolving role of accounting information in society.
