Sofia Elverdin

Curriculum Vitae

Sofia is an Assistant Professor of Politics at Washington and Lee University. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Yale University, where she was a graduate fellow at the Council on Latin American and Iberian Studies. Before coming to the US for her doctoral studies, she was a fellow at Argentina’s National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) and taught at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella and Universidad de San Andrés. At W&L, she will teach courses on comparative politics, Latin American politics, and applied statistics. She is especially excited to teach about her home region of Latin America and to engage students through case-based learning.

Elverdin’s research focuses on social movements and gender and politics in Latin America. Her work has been published in PS: Political Science & Politics, and her coauthored work has been recognized with awards including the APSA Religion and Politics Section’s Kenneth D. Wald Best Graduate Student Paper Award. Her research has received support from the American Political Science Association, the Tinker Foundation, and the Yale MacMillan Center. She has conducted extensive fieldwork in Argentina and is currently developing her first book project on feminist movements in the country.
