Benedikt Alberternst is a marketing scholar whose research explores the intersection of marketing, consumption, and society. He studies how social, cultural, and institutional forces shape resilient and responsible consumption and business practices. His research offers insights that help both consumers and marketers navigate and thrive in an increasingly dynamic and uncertain environment. His work has been recognized with several awards, including an Honorable Mention for the ACR/Sheth Foundation Dissertation Award and the Best Paper Award at the AMA Summer Academic Conference. He regularly presents his findings at international conferences and contributes to the academic community as an ad-hoc reviewer for the Journal of Consumer Research.

Professor Alberternst joined Washington and Lee University in 2025, where he teaches Marketing Management. His teaching interests center on customer experience, relationship marketing, and cultural strategy. Prior to W&L, he earned his Ph.D. in Business Administration (Marketing) from Freie Universität Berlin. During his doctoral studies, he was a visiting scholar at the Schulich School of Business in Toronto. He holds an M.Sc. in Business Administration and a B.Sc. in Business Administration and Economics from Paderborn University. As part of his master’s program, he spent a semester at Illinois State University as a Fulbright Scholar.
