Sydney Internship and Study Abroad Program

Students participating in the Sydney, Australia combined internship and study abroad program will travel to Sydney in late February to undertake a full course load, including a semester-long internship, at the University of Sydney. Before departing to Sydney, qualified students can also complete a 6-8 week U.S. internship for 3 course credits.

Because of the busy period that accounting firms experience during the first quarter of the calendar year, students (and firms) stand to learn much more from interning during the winter as opposed to the summer. The challenge has always been to figure out how students will make up the lost credits if they were to complete a winter internship. In comes Australia, where spring (their fall) semesters do not begin until late February/early March. In addition to the local internship experience, students enrolled in this program benefit from a study abroad experience that includes the option of completing a second internship in Sydney. Students can earn up to 18 credits at the completion of this program.

Even though this program was originally conceived with accounting students in mind, Business Administration and Economics majors will equally benefit from this experience.
