Sheila Colón was appointed Director of Student and Alumni Engagement at the Williams School in June 2016. She works with the Dean, faculty and representatives from various programs across campus including Career Development, Alumni Relations, the Development Office and the Shepherd Program in the creation of extra and co-curricular programs that advance the mission of the university. She oversees the Williams School’s communications initiatives and works closely with faculty and Media Relations in the creation of communication vehicles that advance the university’s message.

Prior to joining the Williams School, she served as Director of Academic Strategy and Communications of the PEL Program at Eckerd College. She assisted the Dean in managing a program serving over 1000 students at four campuses. She directed market research and alumni/community outreach initiatives. She also taught the intro and capstone courses.

She served as a strategic planning consultant for the Poynter Institute for Media Studies, a global leader in journalism. She also was owner/publisher of Northwest Beachcomber Publishers and co-founder of Sign-A-Vision Institute, a Seattle-based educational media company. She has taught classes in the journalism and mass communications at Washington and Lee University, Pacific Lutheran University, Seattle University and the University of Washington.

Colón received her Bachelor of Arts from Winthrop University and her Masters in Communication from the University of Washington in Seattle. Her husband Aly is the John S. and James L. Knight Professor of Media Ethics in the Journalism and Mass Communications Department at Washington and Lee. Their daughter, Christina, is a student at Centre College.
