Grounded in contemporary and classical modern genres that fuse natural alignment, multidimensional opposition, and dense movement vocabularies influenced by qigong and capoeira to cultivate use of breath, weight, and momentum. We begin by connecting with the cardinal directions of the Earth to feel its support, nourishment, stability, and grounding forces. Moving into center and across the floor exercises to enliven and bring heat to the dancing body in preparation to engage with repertory from Speak, Memory – a work navigating the contours of memory. Through its subtle shifting dynamics, rippling effects, and explorations of multidimensional gravity, Speak, Memory evokes a sense of dreaming, nostalgia, and longing.
