The University's science collections, under the supervision of a science librarian, are housed in three stories in the science center.
The mission of the IQ Center is to foster cross-disciplinary and quantitative approaches to inspire creativity and problem solving in teaching and research. The Center will help prepare undergraduates to become leaders in science and math careers, as well as to produce scientifically curious and literate leaders in society, regardless of career emphasis.

Computer science students have access to two state-of-the-art laboratories for introductory and advanced courses, as well as a lab dedicated to student research projects. Our main teaching lab features Mac Minis configured to dual-boot OS X and Linux, and our dedicated research lab offers high-performance Linux computers running the Condor high-throughput computing system. Additional equipment is available for advanced work in web-application design and testing, medical / geological imaging, cluster computing, and robotics.
The Department of Geology is housed in state-of-the-art facilities in W&L's Science Center. Our "quarters" include a clustered arrangement of faculty offices and laboratories; a dedicated departmental computer laboratory0; extensive geochemical, geophysical and geologic equipment; student research offices for geology majors; and departmental lounges. These facilities were specifically designed to promote student-faculty collaboration in a collegial setting.
Offices, laboratories, and classrooms for physics and engineering are located in Howe Hall, in the science center complex. In addition to general laboratories for introductory courses, there are teaching laboratories dedicated to electronics, digital data acquisition, fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, and optics. Other spaces are dedicated to faculty research, a seminar room, and office space for senior majors and students participating in department research.
