Announcements from the Associated Colleges of the South
ACS Faculty Grants support projects that develop method rather than content, have a direct impact on student learning and assessment of that learning, and help increase the efficiency and reduce the cost of a liberal arts education. ACS is especially interested in proposals that incorporate the following: inter-institutional collaboration, online or technology-enhanced pedagogy, diversity and inclusion, and the ability to generate matching funds. Standard Faculty Grants range from $2,500-$15,000. Grants of up to $100,000 could be available through the Woodruff Foundation for projects that make liberal arts education more sustainable by creating virtual, inter-institutional academic departments or fully online programs. Pre-proposals are due September 18, 2015. For more information, visit http://colleges.org/programs/faculty-grants/ or email Jessica Lexow at firstname.lastname@example.org
ACS Workshop at Trinity University
Congratulations to Lynn Chin, Assistant Professor of Sociology and Mitch Keller, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, on their acceptance to this year’s ACS Workshop at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX!
<p ">This workshop is a unique faculty development opportunity to work with colleagues who value the craft of teaching. The Workshop's staff and participants will all be faculty members representing a wide range of ACS institutions, academic disciplines, and career stages. The heart of the Workshop is microteaching where faculty work in small groups to teach short segments of classes, then analyze the experiences of the learners in these classes in order to improve teaching.
The consortium announces the availability of funds for faculty grants in the fall, with September 11 being the deadline for pre-proposals of one or two pages. Grants of $3,000 each are available for the efforts of individual faculty that offer the promise of being models for faculty throughout the consortium, $7,500 for collaborative efforts on a single campus that offer the prospect of being replicated on other ACS campuses and $12,000 for interinstitutional projects involving two or more ACS institutions. read more........
