Traveller Dispatch is available seven nights a week from 10:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. Simply call (540) 458-8900, tell the dispatcher where you are, where you would like to go and how many people need to go and a driver will be sent to you as quickly as possible. Each student can only take one ride per night, and this ride can only be given to take the student home. Traveller Dispatch can only guarantee service to students who call by 1:30am to ensure our drivers can return by 2:00 am for vehicle inspections. Rides placed after will be serviced to the best of our ability.
On Wednesday, Friday and Saturday Traveller Dispatch vehicles are intended to 'supplement' the existing bus route to assist students who are not conveniently located near an existing bus stop. Students located near a Traveller Express Bus stop should use the bus, not the dispatch service on those nights. Dispatch calls are taken on a first call basis, the pickup route as designated by the Traveller Dispatcher within a 5 mile driving distance of campus.
Calls to Traveller Dispatch should be made early enough to ensure a ride is available. Depending on the volume of business, late callers are not guaranteed a ride and vehicles will not operate after 2:00 AM. On busy nights, a wait list does develop. Callers are expected to wait outside their location for the vehicle. Drivers will not park and come looking for a passenger inside a location. If you are not at your pickup point when the vehicle arrives, you will have to re-call and will go to the bottom of the active wait list.
Note that any stops outside of a 5 mile driving distance from campus cannot be accommodated by the Traveller service!
