Mark Fox Not in this Fool's House

January 12 - February 11

Artist's Talk and Exhibit Reception:
January 20, 5:30pm
Wilson Hall's Concert Hall

New York-based artist Mark Fox is best known for his two- and three-dimensional assemblages made from thousands of meticulous drawings that he cuts out and reassembles to create new narratives and unexpected associations. However Fox works in a variety of media, drawing on source material mined from personal biography, popular culture, news media, historical and religious texts, comic books, and advertising. His drawings, sculptures, videos, installations are united by his methodical process, use of iconography, and exploration of the relationship between destruction and construction. For the exhibition in Staniar Gallery, Fox will present several sculptural pieces, drawings, and a selection of films and animations. Mark Fox received his MFA from Stanford University and his BFA from Washington University in St. Louis. He has had solo exhibitions at the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum, the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Detroit Institute of Arts, Rice University Art Gallery, the Herbert F. Johnson Museum and the Fabric Workshop and Museum. He work has recently been acquired and exhibited by the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. He is also included in the collections of MoMA and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among other institutions.
