Bordeaux River Cruise April 2 - 10, 2017

On previous river programs, we've sailed on three of France's fabled rivers. To these we now add the Dordogne, the Gironde, and the Garonne. We're pleased to present a nine-day journey through France's Bordeaux region and the valleys of the Médoc, Libourne, and the Entre-deux-Mers. This river cruise will take you into the heart of some of the most breathtaking scenery in France. Our itinerary will include the famous regions of the Garonne and the Dordogne. We'll visit the largest area of AOC (appellation d'origine contrôlée) vineyards in the world, Pauillac and the Médoc, and the ancient towns of Blaye and Saint-Emilion to sample their renowned wines. We'll tour the Château de Roquetaillade in Cadillac and Cognac, a historical city world famous for its fine liqueur. Well known for its historical monuments and 18th-century architecture, Bordeaux's handsomely preserved Saint Pierre district is in itself a work of art. Bordeaux's port on the Garonne is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Since we'll be traveling aboard a luxurious riverboat, we'll need to unpack only once as we enjoy enchanting views of the Bordeaux estuary from the comfort of our cabins.

Our riverboat, the Scenic Diamond, combines elegance, exquisite cuisine, and relaxing comfort. You'll enjoy panoramic views as you stroll the outdoor track on the Sun Deck or from the comfort of your private cabin. Gourmet meals with wine are served each day in the dining room. Each cabin and suite boasts a superior queen bed and other amenities, including a television and minibar. Our boat includes a wellness center, electronically assisted bicycles, complimentary Wi-Fi and beverages throughout. Central to the cruise experience will be talks on the history and culture of the Bordeaux region of France.

This tour offers a post-cruise extension to the Basque region of Spain with visits to San Sebastian and Bilbao. Early enrollment is strongly encouraged, as our river trips tend to fill quickly. Come join us for this unusual discovery cruise of one of France's most celebrated destinations! Round-trip air from Washington, D.C., is included in the package price.
