First-Year Read Discussion

The discussion of the first-year reading selection is a key part of your introduction to academic life at W&L. During the summer you will read a book selected by the University that will serve as a common intellectual experience for you and your classmates. During first-year orientation, you will have the opportunity to examine the work in a seminar setting with a faculty or staff volunteer leading the discussion.

AIM Program

The mission of the Advanced Immersion and Mentoring (AIM) initiative is to instill an increased sense of confidence and belonging within incoming first-year students. As W&L furthers its ongoing commitment to a diverse and inclusive community, the continued development of AIM as our Quality Enhancement Plan is providing meaningful support and fostering connections for talented students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds.

Nationally Competitive Fellowships

A full college education cannot exist within the walls of a classroom alone. That’s why we encourage and support students who decide to pursue nationally competitive fellowships. The Office of Fellowships is dedicated to helping students identify and apply for opportunities they feel will most benefit them both during and after their time at W&L.
