Professor Cunningham teaches geomorphology and GIS. My research explores how climate shapes landscapes through erosion, with a particular focus on how glaciers have influenced mountain landscapes in tropical regions such as Costa Rica, Colombia, Papua New Guinea, and East Africa.

Using satellite imagery and other remote sensing technologies, I investigate how past glaciation is recorded in mountain topography. I also enjoy bringing these tools into the classroom and am excited to help students explore the rapidly evolving field of Earth observation. I find the profound growth of Earth imaging platforms, both in terms of volume and versatility, to be deeply motivating, and I think it is a really exciting time to be a geomorphologist and an Earth scientist.
