Strategic Planning Process

The 2018 Strategic Planning process engaged over 100 individuals from across the university to envision a plan that would articulate Washington and Lee's priorities and aspirations for the years to come.

The effort was led by Provost Marc Conner and Vice President for Student Affairs Sidney Evans, who co-chaired a steering committee of faculty, staff, students and trustees:

  • Marc Conner and Sidney Evans (Co-Chairs)
  • Johanna Bond (Law)
  • Mary Choksi (Board of Trustees)
  • Hayden Combs '18
  • Tamara Futrell (Student Affairs)
  • Joseph Guse (Economics)
  • Mary Main (Human Resources)
  • Alexus McGriff '18
  • Karla Murdock (Psychology)
  • Craig Owens '76 (Board of Trustees)
  • David Saacke (Information Technology Services)
  • Jessica Willett '95 (Communications and Public Affairs)

The steering committee worked closely with seven task forces, each of which also included faculty, staff, students and trustees. The task forces articulated the key priorities in their own areas, while also coordinating with each other to understand and align their priorities across the task forces. In the process, they engaged many key themes, such as accessibility and affordability, diversity, interdisciplinary and international education, and sustainability, which affect the university as a whole.
