Community Update: November 4, 2017

The Commission is now involved in on-campus outreach.

On Monday, Oct. 30, at 4-5 pm, Commission members Brian Murchison and Tom Camden hosted a discussion in Lewis Hall for law faculty members, who were invited to the faculty lounge to discuss messages conveyed by our physical campus. Six faculty members were present for the discussion. On Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 9-10 a.m., Murchison and Camden hosted a second discussion for law faculty, who were invited to the lounge to discuss ways to increase the diversity of the student body, as well as aspects of campus that may impede diversity efforts. Two participants from the previous day came back for this discussion and were joined by a third law colleague.

On Friday, Nov, 3, at 8-9 a.m., Commission members Ted DeLaney, Tom Camden, and Brian Murchison hosted a discussion in Elrod Commons for undergraduate faculty members, who were invited to discuss messages conveyed by our physical campus. Sixteen faculty members were present for the discussion. Later that day, at 12:20-1:15 p.m., Murchison and Camden hosted another session at the same location to discuss the same topic. Eight colleagues were present.

Four additional meetings have been scheduled. On Nov. 7, at both 8-9-a.m. 12:20-1:15 p.m. at 216 Elrod Commons, the topic will be ways to increase diversity, and on Nov. 10, at both 8-9 a.m. and 4-5 p.m. at 216 Elrod Commons, the topic will be aspects of campus that may impede diversity efforts.
