Commission on Institutional History and Community
In August 2017, President Dudley appointed the Commission on Institutional History and Community to lead W&L students, faculty, staff and alumni in an examination of how our history — and the ways that we teach, discuss and represent it — shapes our community.
The Commission worked throughout the 2017-2018 academic year, issuing interim reports available below under the Messages to the Community. On May 2, the Commission submitted its report to President Dudley. The report consisted of 31 recommendatons and accompanying explanation and discussion. The Commission met with the President to discuss the report on May 7. On May 11, the Commission discussed the report with the Board of Trustees during the board's spring meeting in Lexington. President Dudley released the report in its entirety to the community on May 18. The report is accessible at the following link: go.wlu.edu/commission-report.
The Commission is grateful to all who participated in the eight-month process that culminated in the submission of its report. To the alumni, faculty, students, staff, and friends of the university who shared their ideas and perspectives on a range of issues, the Commission extends sincere thanks and appreciation.
