LGBTQ Resources

The mission of the Washington and Lee University Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) Resource Center is to affirm the existence and development of LGBTQ individuals at W&L by providing a strong and welcoming community for LGBTQ students and their allies within the larger institution.

Annual Events:

Safe Space Training: A training where you'll not only learn facts and terminology about the LGBTQ community, but also develop and improve your strategies for becoming a better ally in the context of your job or position on campus. Your presenters Rallie Snowden, LCSW and Janet Boller, Psy.D. work hard to make this training an interactive, informative and fun way to strengthen your skills as an ally to the LGBTQ community, so come join us! This training is given to RAs and Peer Counselors in the fall and also offered to staff and faculty during fall and winter academy.

Fall BBQ: Hosted in conjunction with WGSS, the Fall BBQ, is a great way to start off the academic year with food, live music, and friends.  This event is held in front of the LGBTQ Resource Center the Friday after classes start and is open to the entire W&L community.

Pride Week: A week of events held in October to celebrate National Coming Out Day which is Oct. 11th.  The week often includes talks led by students, speakers from off campus, Sharing Our Stories where LGBTQ members of the W&L community share some aspect of their coming out stories, t-shirt sales, free swag, etc.

Alumni Events: Open houses are held during alumni weekend in May and provide an opportunity to get together with other LGBTQ alumni and allies and hear about the latest news on LGBTQ campus life.

The Virginia Equality Gala:  Held every year in March, the Gala is hailed by many as the best party of the year.  Where else can you get food, music, and a live drag show?!  Come as you are; no date or particular dress code required.

Lavender Graduation: A graduation party for all LGBTQ graduating seniors.  Held each year in May, the party is held for seniors and their friends and allies.
