The mission of the Office of Community-Based Learning is to support, enhance and develop mutually-beneficial university-community partnerships that facilitate student learning and promote civic engagement. OCBL collaborates with its constituents to develop a common vision for community-based learning at Washington and Lee grounded in rich pedagogical practices.

The Office of Community-Based Learning was established in July 2017. Since its inception, OCBL has been engaged in a  number of initiatives with guidance from the Community Engagement and Service Learning Advisory Group. These initiatives include implementing a university-wide database to post and follow engagement opportunities, enhancing relationships with community partners, and strengthening community-based learning by a grant-funded community partner-university collaboration to develop resources and create a common vision for CBL.
