Gregory Parker, Professor of Music, has performed as a baritone soloist in oratorio and recital presentations around the country as well as with opera companies in Alabama, Texas, Missouri, North Carolina and Virginia. In June 2018, he performed a recital of contemporary American art songs on the Dimanches Musicaux concert series at the American Cathedral in Paris with pianist, Anna Billias. In addition to studying with James McKinney, a former president of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and author of The Diagnosis and Correction of Vocal Faults, he worked with internationally acclaimed pedagogues Horst Günter and Richard Miller.

He has published articles in Ala Breve, journal of the Alabama Music Educators Association, WMEA Windsong, journal of the Wyoming Music Educators Association, and The Carolina Caroler, newsletter of the North Carolina Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. He received the Faculty Newcomer of the Year Award from Southwest Baptist University in 1995 and the Excellence in Teaching Award from Chowan University in 2008. He served as chair of the Department of Music at Chowan from 2005-2013 and head of the Department of Music at W&L from 2013-2021.

Dr. Parker is a lifelong Baptist church musician. He served as a worship leader in a number of congregations, a clinician at church music workshops, a director of festival and all-state youth choirs, and as a member of the music selection committee for The Baptist Hymnal, 2008.

He holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in voice performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he was a Carr-Millsap Scholar and Teaching Assistant. He is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

His wife, Lori, is a realtor with James Wm. Moore Real Estate in Lexington, Virginia. They are the parents of two grown children, Alex and Brianna.
