Summer Internship in Museum Work

Department of University Collections of Art and History Summer Internship

The Department of University Collections of Art and History is offering an eight-week paid summer internship to currently enrolled or 2019 graduates of Washington & Lee University. The internship will start on June 10 and runs through August 2. The eight-week program consists of regular workdays, Monday through Friday, beginning at 9:00AM and ending at 4:30PM.

The program will provide students with an introduction to basic museum policies and practices through hands on experience with the collection including: accessioning, cataloging, proper storage methods, research, database management, and loans. We hope that after eight weeks, students will leave the program with a basic understanding of the major curatorial and administrative issues all museums face, regardless of the different types of collections they possess.
