"Shakespeare's England: Prints from the Folger Collection"

To commemorate the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death, Washington and Lee University's Staniar Gallery, in conjunction with the Departments of English, History, and Art and Art History, will present an exhibition of prints from the collection of the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C, as well as painting and prints from the University's Collection of Art and History. These works on paper, produced in Great Britain during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I and the career of Willliam Shakespeare, will help describe and define various aspects of life in England during the period generally considered its "Golden Age." Through portraits and theatrical scenes, this exhibition will offer a glimpse into the world of Shakespeare's England.
