Accreditation and Licensure

Washington and Lee University is authorized by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) to provide post-secondary undergraduate and graduate level programs, and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award the degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Juris Doctor, and Master of Laws. The program in Business Administration is accredited by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business; and, the program in Journalism and Mass Communications is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications. The programs in Chemistry are approved by the American Chemical Society Committee on Professional Training; and, the School of Law is a member of the Association of American Law Schools and is approved by the American Bar Association. Additionally, the Rockbridge Teacher Education Consortium, which represents a collaboration between Washington and Lee University and Southern Virginia University, is accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) and approved by the Virginia Department of Education to offer course work that leads to certification in Teacher Education.
