Seasons Eatings Challenge Starts November 21

Tis the Season to Eat Healthier! Weight gained over the holidays, even just a pound or two tends to stick with you. It's easy to overeat during the holidays. But it's also easy to eat smart and enjoy the holidays too.   During this 7-week challenge, we'll cover financial wellness, stress, ideas for getting active, substitutions for granny's favorite holiday recipes, as well as provide you with healthy recipes and tips for surviving those delicious holiday parties! This program will arm you with the tools you need to ensure you get through the holidays without the extra pounds!   PROGRAM DATES The challenge will begin on November 21, 2016 and end on January 13, 2017 at 7:00 pm ET. GETTING STARTED You can register for this challenge until November 25th at 7:00 pm ET. Log onto the Evolve Wellness portal and click on the "My Programs" tab. Click on the "Register" button next to the Season's Eatings Challenge. A registration pop-up will appear. Simply click "submit" to register. TRACKING & REWARDS: Beginning November 21st, record your weight in the weight tracker tab of the 'My Trackers' section of the wellness portal at least 2 days a week during the program for a total of 14 days. If you complete the tracking requirements, you will be awarded 25 Wellness Points. Privacy Note: Your weight will NOT be shared with anyone at W&L. Ring in the New Year in Good Health! 1st and Goal Challenge Starts Monday, September 19th

Ready, set, hike! Step up to the sideline and kick off your physical activity this season. This 6-week challenge rewards you for being active – walking, running, biking – anything that increases your heart rate. Everyone who tracks on 30 total hours of physical activity (an average of 5 hours per week) will earn 25 wellness points! Challenge starts Monday, September 19 Challenge ends Friday, October 28 Register by 7:00pm EDT Friday, September 23

Slash The Sugar Challenge starts August 15

Overdoing the Sweet Stuff? This 5-week challenge does not expect you to avoid everything sweet (which is good news if you like coffee with a little sugar) but instead focuses on healthy progress and cutting back. Your goal is to cut your sugar consumption in half, which for most of us is a realistic goal. Here's how the program works: we will start by learning a little more about sugar and how much of it is in common foods. We'll learn ways to cut sugar and take a close look at sugar substitutes. Each week, you'll take some quizzes and track some of the sugary foods and drinks you consume using the tracker in this portal. Sound easy? Let's get started. DETAILS Program Dates: August 15 – September 16 Register by Friday, 08/19 Total Point Value: 25 Weekly Requirements: Answer all of the questions each week of the program, and track your sugar consumption on at least 15 days during the challenge. No Gym? No Problem! Challenge starts July 11

Do Your Muscles Feel Forgotten? Strength training is important for people of all ages. Your muscles want to be worked! Tone, healthy muscles help boost health, manage weight, and reduce the pain and symptoms of chronic conditions. Unfortunately, it is easy to neglect our muscles as we go about our busy lives. This challenge encourages you to spend four weeks jump-starting your muscle training by focusing on each of the important muscle groups. We’ll show you how to do exercises that are quick and convenient. No equipment needed! You don’t even need a set of weights. Everyone can benefit from these routines, whether you are a complete beginner, just haven’t worked your muscles in a while, or even if you already work out every week. Color Your Plate Challenge

Chow down! Are you ready for an eating challenge that is actually good for you? Sign up for our Color Your Plate program today! The USDA recommends that the average person eat 2 cups of fruit and 2½ cups of vegetables per day! Are you getting enough? Register for the Color Your Plate fruit and vegetable challenge today and get:     Tips for getting more fruits and vegetables into your diet     Healthy and delicious recipes     A tracking log to monitor your daily fruit and veggie intake Program Details: The program will begin on April 18th and end on May 13th (4 weeks) Earn 25 Wellness Points for tracking fruits and vegetables daily  Getting Started: Registration for the program will begin on April 1st. Interest participants can register for the program up until April 22nd. To register:     Log into your Wellness account at bebetterhealth.net.     Click on the "My Programs" tab.     Click the "Learn More" button for additional information and FAQs.     Click the "Register" button and complete the short registration information.     After registration, the "Register" button will become a "Leaderboard" button, which you can use to access the program once the program begins. Completing the Program: Use the nutrition tracker to log how many fruits and vegetables you eat. You must track 3 cups of fruits and vegetables daily (84 cups total) to earn 25 Wellness Points.

Join Us in the Stress Down Program

Join Us in the Stress Down Program!   Does your busy life keep you frazzled and tense?  We have a great program for you!  Normal daily living causes stress, but there are effective ways to bring stress down.  This 6-week program rewards you for trying new stress-busting techniques.  Learn to manage stress, so it doesn't manage you! Program Details:                                                 The challenge will begin on Monday, March 7th and end on Friday, April 15th. Each participant will participate as an individual. You will earn wellness points during this 6-week program if you go for a walk at least 4 days each week, and log your walking minutes in the 'My Trackers' section on your wellness portal. Each week, you will also need to read an article and try the stress-busting technique. Getting Started:                                                You can register for this challenge from Monday, February 22nd to Friday, March 11th!  To register: Log into your account at www.bebetterhealth.net. Click on the "My Programs" tab. Click on the “Register” button next to the Stress Down Program and submit registration. For additional information on the challenge, click on the “Learn More” button Tracking Weekly Walking Activity: Take a short walk at least four times a week. You will use the physical activity tracker in the "My Trackers" section of the beBetter Health site to log your physical activity every week from March 7th to April 15th. Earning Points: To get credit for completing the 6-week program, you must self-attest on the wellness portal that you have  completed all of the program requirements by April 22nd. This includes walking on at least 24 days of the program.  In addition to tracking your walking for each week, go to the My Rewards page and click "Log This" for the Stress Down program.

The 2016 Spring Fitness Challenge is here!

Spring into Fitness with Live Well! Warm up for spring during the Fitness Center’s 6th Annual Spring Fitness Challenge. This 5-week challenge will be offered by the W&L Fitness Center. You can earn points for your workout. Program Details: The program will begin on 03/06/2016 and end on 04/08/2016. Earn 25 Wellness Points upon program completion. Getting Started: Registration for the program will begin on 02/29/2016. Register at the Fitness Center or by emailing Patti Colliton at collitonp@wlu.edu. There is no need to register on the Evolve Wellness website. You must register by 3/13/2016 to be eligible for 25 Spring Fitness Challenge points. After this date you are still able to earn tickets for raffle prizes offered by the Fitness Center. How to Earn: Once you register at the Fitness Center they will give you a form to track your physical activity. Earn raffle tickets by completing the following: Cardio/Aerobic/Strength Training for 20-40 minutes, will earn you 1 raffle ticket. Cardio/Aerobic/Strength Training for 41 minutes or more, will earn you 2 raffle tickets. Flexibility/Yoga for 5-10 minutes, will earn you 1 raffle ticket. Core/Abdominal work with a minimum of 4 exercises for 5-10 minutes, will earn you 1 raffle ticket. You may earn a maximum of 5 raffle tickets per day for a chance to win fun prizes offered by the W&L Fitness Center. You can do the workouts at any gym or on your own. Completing the Program: Return your tracking log to the Fitness Center by 2:00pm on Friday, April 8th. You will earn 25 wellness points for this challenge if you earn at least 4 raffle tickets per week of the challenge.
