Local Food Options

Interested in eating locally? A CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) share is essentially a subscription to a farm or other local food supplier. The subscription format provides you with fresh, local produce (and eggs, cheese, meat, etc.) and allows farmers some predictability of demand and assurance that their hard work will end up eaten.

Washington and Lee provides payroll deduction options for Rockbridge Farmers Alliance CSA shares. We hope the ability to spread the cost over several months will make local food options an affordable choice for W&L employees.

Rockbridge Farmers Alliance

The Rockbridge Farmer's Alliance CSA provides a weekly pick up running from May through September featuring nutritious favorites such as spring greens, summer staples like tomatoes, zucchini, sweet corn and peppers, followed by fall treats of winter squash, sweet potatoes and apples. Each weekly bag features food grown right here in Rockbridge County by either Paradox Farm or one of our partner farms such as Sunflower Flats or Foxridge Farm. It's a great way to nourish your family and your body and it's always fresh.  Pick-up is every Thursday at the Hillel House on Washington Street from 4:30pm-6:30pm.

Paradox Farm also offers market shares. Market shares work similar to a debit account. Customers pay up front when farmer's costs are highest. Simply stop by the Wednesday Lexington Farmer's Market Paradox Farm Booth (Just look for Mitch!) or the Saturday Rockbridge Farmer's market at the Horse Center. Pick out your farm fresh goodies and don't worry about bringing the cash! We've got it handled.
